Travel Log:  Entry #  8

by:  Flat Stanley
Today was a very blustery day!  It was about 107 degrees outside and the wind was blowing about 25 miles per hour.  The sand started blowing around and before you knew it, it looked like it was really foggy out.  It was like a sandstorm.  Before the visibility really decreased, in the distance I could see a tall column rising into the air.  It was a like a tornado made of sand.    I think  it is called a dust devil.  It looked just like the picture below.  The wind was blowing so hard that I lost my footing and blew into some concertina wire.  Mr Polhemus had to help me out.  The storm only lasted for a little while--it cleared up right when the sun was setting on the desert.
