My
friend Jessie is a dj at a rock station in Dallas.
She told me I might want to fly in for a visit since rumor had it that the
legendary Little Steven was wandering around the station shaking hands and
making new friends.
Here is the 4-1-1 on Steven Van Zandt (A.K.A- Little Steven.)
He is one of the founding fathers of the Asbury Park Sound and he has
performed with and produced music for Bruce Springsteen.
He has also written songs for Brian Setzer, Gary U.S. Bonds and Jimmy
Cliff.
After leaving the E Street Band, Little Steven spent the several years
fully immersed in international politics. He also continued with his own
music and released four albums, and toured internationally with his own
band. He has continued to work to further human rights since the early
1980's, spearheading the hugely successful anti-apartheid Sun City
project. He established the Solidarity Foundation in 1985 to support the
sovereignty of indigenous peoples.
He has been honored twice by the United Nations for his human rights
achievements, and received the International Documentary Association Award
for his film The Making of Sun City.
On top of his music Little Steven also cultivated a career as an actor.
He plays Silvio Dante in HBO's critically acclaimed dramatic series, The
Sopranos.
Little Steven also has his own syndicated radio show that is broadcast on
radio stations all over America
